Treating wastewater in order to produce reusable technical water
Introduction.
Many municipalities in Sweden have wastewater treatment plants that treat wastewater through a variety of procedures. They are able to purify the wastewater to a very high degree, but a significant majority of treatment plants do not have any means of dealing with micropollutants yet, such as industrial pollutants and pharmaceutical residues.
In this reference project, we are helping one of these municipal wastewater treatment plants!
The problem.
Municipal wastewater treatment aims to reduce the nutrients, nitrogen and phosphorus in the wastewater using chemical and biological treatment techniques. As mentioned, after this treatment process, the treated wastewater still contains micropollutants such as bacteria and viruses, making it unfit for reuse in other applications.
The wastewater treatment plant turned to us Mellifiq for help. They were looking for a solution that would disinfect the treated wastewater to such a degree that it could be reused as technical water. The technical water would then be used as process water in other parts of the organization.
The solution.
We installed and commissioned our Ozonetech RENA Vivo ozone system at the treatment plant. The system is able to disinfect wastewater flows up to 20 m3/h, and it also includes safety features that ensure a safe working environment. It is very intuitive to use and its settings are easily customizable using the Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) that it is equipped with.
Thanks to the modularity of the system, it can also be upgraded if the demand for technical water increases.
Evaluation.
The RENA Vivo ozonation system can be used at all times, every day of the year. Thanks to this, the wastewater treatment plant can reduce its tap water use by over 3 000 m3 every week. The safety mechanisms built into the system also make the staff feel safe and secure when they operate the system.
