World’s first building solely designed for treating pharmaceuticals!

Alongside leading the way in Europe’s transition in micropollutant elimination in wastewater, we are thrilled to share a groundbreaking achievement that’s making waves locally and globally in the field of water management. Mellifiq was trusted to erect and has now completed the world’s first building with the sole purpose to treat pharmaceutical residues and microplastics.

This project has taken a unique path by constructing a complete additional facility at the existing wastewater treatment plant. Mellifiq played a crucial role by not only delivering the equipment and engineering expertise but orchestrating the entire construction process, along with all its associated elements with minimal effort from the municipality.

This pioneering initiative is part of an extensive plan to prepare for potential, future legislation for wastewater treatment across different environments and climates. The coming EU wastewater directive will introduce regulations mandating treatment to prevent the release of pharmaceutical residues into ecosystems.
