Innovative granular material reduces Opex for biogas production
Introduction.
This case is about a municipality located on the Swedish west coast.
In this city, manure, food, and organic waste are all collected in the local biogas plant, producing fertilizers and renewable energy. The biogas plant produces 36 GWh per year, the equivalent of 4.1 million liters of oil.
The problem.
One of the key steps in any biogas plant is desulfurization. In this case, the plant manager was still using traditional stages based on sub-optimal activated carbons, resulting in high operational costs.
The biogas plant was in desperate need of an upgrade.
The solution.
Product: OCM-Sulfcat Aktivni ugljen
We at Mellifiq were chosen to provide a solution and after some consideration, the plant manager decided to opt for our OCM-Sulfcat, a premium material with an optimized impregnation. Sulfcat manages to excel at adsorbing air pollutants while still being very cheap cost-wise. It is also available in pellet form or in granular form depending on the application.
Using our OCM-Sulfcat, the biogas plant succeeded in minimizing operational costs while keeping the same desulfurization performance.
Evaluation.
Thanks to Mellifiq, the biogas production is now more efficient and cheaper at the same time, benefitting both the plant owner and the community at large.
