Mellifiq Secures Advanced PFAS Leachate Water Treatment Project

Mellifiq has signed a contract to deliver a project to treat leachate water in Sweden using advanced oxidation and sorption technologies. The design phase of the project starts in January and is expected to be completed in mid 2026. This is the first stage of future implementation at a heavily polluted recycling facility, built with a capacity of up to 5 m3/h. Leachate water is especially challenging due to the complex water matrix, and elevated levels of suspended solids and recalcitrant substances.

The treatment system will primarily target PFAS compounds which continue to plague recycling facilities worldwide, while also minimizing footprint and energy consumption to evaluate future large scale implementation. Mellifiq will solve this with a multi-stage treatment process including particle separation, advanced ozone oxidation and adsorption polishing. PFAS are a stable group of environmentally detrimental compounds which are difficult to neutralize with chemical methods and need to be isolated for effective separation, making a multiple-technology approach necessary.

Mellifiq is happy to continue to be a front-runner in the field of PFAS treatment and to contribute with further design baselines in the field.
