Mellifiq Delivers the World’s Most Compact Facility for Pharmaceutical Residues Treatment
Mellifiq is proud to announce the completion of a pioneering, stand-alone facility in Storuman Municipality, Sweden, dedicated to eliminating pharmaceutical residues from wastewater. This project marks a significant step toward protecting ecosystems while also aligning with future EU environmental directives.
Global pharmaceutical consumption has surged over the past decades, leading to increasing emissions of pharmaceutical residues to wastewater and subsequently our waters. Unfortunately, modern wastewater treatment plants are not currently equipped with processes to remove these contaminants, allowing them to enter water systems and pose serious risks to ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.
As a complete EPC contractor, Mellifiq has designed and constructed this stand-alone facility, overseeing the entire process from planning to installation. This quaternary treatment facility integrates advanced technologies, including sand filtration, a turnkey ozone system, and a final polishing adsorption stage to remove residual pollutants.
This initiative underscores Mellifiq’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions that address the growing need for advanced wastewater treatment, in response to increasing global pharmaceutical consumption and the European Commission’s revised Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD), which enforces stricter regulations on micropollutants
Thank you, Storuman Municipality and all our partners for your trust and dedication to this shared mission.
