When the founder of this beverage company squeezed her first apples back in Denmark in 1934, she could never have imagined that 90 years later, the company would be making up to 150 million liters of juice per year.

The company, nowadays with German owners, has most of its sales in Sweden and Denmark mainly, focusing on making juice from natural ingredients while excluding additives. The oranges are picked in Brazil and Mexico, and are then shipped off to Europe. The oranges either arrive intact or in the form of orange juice concentrate.

Besides orange juice, our client also produces mixed juices, lemonade, tomato juice and lemon juice shots with ginger, turmeric and chili flavouring.

The problem.

Back in 2017, our client acquired several other well known juice brands. All of these are well known for their high quality, freshly squeezed juices.

In order to ensure cross-brand quality and a long shelf life, they were in dire need of a solution that could prevent microbial contamination during the washing and rinsing processes for the fresh fruit. The system needed to be ready for service, very reliable and easy to run as a part of the modern new production facility.

The solution.

Our client turned to us to manufacture, deliver and commission an ozone system.

We installed the Ozonetech RENA Vivo A-series that would ozonate their rinse water continuously during the juice production, upstream of the fruit squeezing operation. By ozonating and precisely regulating the dissolved ozone concentration in the rinse tank, the fresh fruit is now completely safe from any microbial contamination at all times. Thanks to this, we can ensure that the final product has a very long shelf life.

The Ozonetech RENA Vivo system was delivered with an advanced control system, ambient ozone detectors for continuous air monitoring, a variable frequency drive (VFD) pump that carefully controls the ozone levels in the rinse water, and automatic degassing in the contact tank. The latter makes sure that any leftover ozone is safely diverted to a safe exhaust point or that is disposed of using an ozone gas destruction process.

Ever since the commissioning of the facility and the ozone system, the company now makes use of the most complete ozone system available on the market, producing juices of the highest quality with the help of an out-of-the-box solution.

The ozone is automatically kept at dissolved ozone concentration levels of 0.1 ppm using less than 0.8 kW of the total input power. Our unique HELS™ technology, along with the high levels of engineering our in-house expertise provides, makes the ozone system run reliably and consistently when needed, and it is all easily activatable at the push of a button.
