Introduction.
All baby carrots are disinfected using ozonated water, which extends shelf life
An award-winning Finnish carrot producer is our client in this specific reference project.
It started out as a family business back in the 1950’s and is nowadays one of Finland’s largest carrot producers, being especially known for their delicious baby carrots. Their long experience of growing carrots has taught them many things about the production process. For our client, quality control, research and development are very important factors and they always strive to improve their processes. This has taken the company to where it is today!
The problem.
Our client was looking for an effective treatment solution that would clean and disinfect their baby carrots without affecting their flavour. Another goal of implementing this treatment solution was to prolong the shelf life of the baby carrots, and thus, rreduce waste and increase company profits.
The solution.
The company turned to us at Mellifiq, and we were more than happy to help them with their dilemma.
We came up with a disinfection solution, using one of our Ozonetech RENA Vivo B systems, that would not affect any flavours whatsoever. The RENA Vivo system circulates ozonated water over the water basin where the baby carrots are rinsed, effectively removing all viruses and bacteria as well as preventing any potential future contamination.. The ozone level is automatically controlled at 1 ppm to ensure that the treatment system performs as optimally as possible. All this results in the finished products having an extended shelf life while still having a fantastic flavour.
Evaluation.
The Ozonetech RENA Vivo B-series keeps cleaning more than 1,000 baby carrots per hour, and is still going strong after several years of service at our client. The system performance is as high-quality as ever, and our client could not be happier!
