Off-Gas Treatment for Lithium Refinery

Off-Gas Treatment for Lithium Refinery

Under a engineering assignment, Mellifiq is supporting a lithium refinery, producing lithium hydroxide for battery applications. The facility is managing a high-temperature off-gas stream of approximately 60,000 m³/h containing elevated levels of SOx, NOx, HF, and VOCs, creating the need for a robust and scalable gas treatment solution.

The project focuses on developing a containerized, outdoor-ready concept for gas cleaning, tailored to the site’s operating conditions. The proposed solution is based on a multi-stage approach combining ozone injection, wet scrubbing with AirMist units including heat recovery for temperature reduction, optional water recovery via reverse osmosis, and final polishing using filter media. Together, the concept is designed to reduce emissions while improving overall resource efficiency.

As part of the assignment, Mellifiq will deliver a complete conceptual package including PFDs, P&IDs, concept-level CAD, and a technical report with process description and indication of both investment costs and expected operating costs. The final concept presentation is scheduled for mid-February.
